In this interactive 3-hour workshop, participants will learn how to understand how to strategically combine TIF with other funding mechanisms, especially in light of levy limits, infrastructure costs, and evolving community needs. 

In today's environment, it is critical that economic developers having a strong handle on the evolving use of Tax Incremental Financing as well as also having the knowledge and skills to leverage other funding resources and educate stakeholders on the importance of public investment.  In this three-hour Academy session, attendees will receive:

  • A comparison of TIF in Wisconsin against our neighboring states

  • A reflection and update on TIF in Wisconsin on its 50th anniversary of the program

  • An overview on state and federal funding resources including an update for 2025 budget and legislative realities

  • Case study examples where local, state and federal resources have completed capital stacks in Wisconsin

  • Strategies for educating elected officials, taxpayers and other project stakeholders on the value of public investments into community projects

  • Participation in an interactive group exercise focused on hot topics in the state including affordable housing, data centers, industrial park development and downtown/historic rehabilitation
