Organization

Centergy, one of the nine regional Economic Development Organizations supported by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, serves the Central Wisconsin counties of Adams, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage and Wood Counties.

Position: Reporting to the Executive Committee, the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will produce measurable positive outcomes in the areas of attraction, retention, and expansion of economic development. Regional travel will be required to serve the region.  The president/CEO will implement the strategies, goals, and objectives of Centergy as it relates to the development and implementation of a regional approach to economic development. Thereby, demonstrating results to and an impact on stakeholder businesses, organizations and communities served. The president/CEO is responsible for providing regionally focused leadership through collaborations with leaders and staff of all sectors engaged in growing and maintaining the economy, providing direction toward economic development, and building consensus among the region, and promoting collaboration among all stakeholders

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Vision: Development, Execution and Management

  • Plans and executes strategies to attract new workforce, businesses and encourage expansion and retention of existing businesses to promote a stronger economic base.
  • Coordinates the planning and development of existing and new programs and project initiatives.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness.
  • Keeps abreast of the advances, procedures, regulations, technological and other market-related changes in all areas related to economic development.

Association Development and Management

  • Identifies, targets and nurtures businesses, industries, and its leaders in the region to grow participation in Centergy.
  • Builds relationships with regional and state economic development organizations.
  • Builds relationship with other regional organizations and agencies to develop synergies.

Financial Management and Grants

  • Prepares and administers organizational budget.
  • Seeks, develops and secure grants and business investment for core organizational programs and operations.
  • Retains current and secures additional organizational funding sources.

Governance and Administration

  • Briefs and advises the Executive Board and other internal and external parties regarding economic development projects in person and through written, verbal, and electronic reports.
  • Coordinates staff and volunteer activities to assure vitality, growth, and development within the area.
  • Directs and delegates projects and personnel where appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality when required. 
  • Demonstrates excellent problem resolution, organization, interpersonal, communication and project management skills along with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Supports the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Develops administrative policies and procedures for Centergy as needed.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

Marketing and Communications

  • Promotes Centergy region as a viable option for location of business/industry by contacting regional and national businesses and responding to RFI’s by other economic development entities.
  • Represents the Centergy region at meetings, presentations, trade shows and through development of proposals and promotional materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Leadership experience in an economic development organization preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, marketing, or related field, or their equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in volunteer/committee/Board of Directors/coalition management preferred.
  • Knowledge of private and public finance and the ability to analyze financial statements and assist with business plan development.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and familiarity with various programs available through state and federal agencies.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, interpersonal communications, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and adequate driving record.
  • The ability to lift 35 pounds.
  • Positive attitude.

Work performed independently with only general direction.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision of Centergy staff.

JUDGMENT REQUIRED

Work consists of difficult and complex tasks and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines. Requires the use of considerable judgment where answers and solutions can only be found after careful thought and analysis.
